Most wet cat food comes from overseas and shipments have been delayed thanks to supply chain issues. One big factor is supply and demand. Supply chain expert Jonathan Phares points out the increased rate of cat adoptions.

As of now, there's no clear-cut answer on when the pet food shortage will end. However, there certainly is hope in sight.

One of the main causes of the shortage is the diversion of raw materials towards human use. In addition, staffing issues, and slower deliveries are also contributing to the problem. As a result, pet food prices have increased up to 40% from two years ago and the smaller stores are struggling to keep up with the demand.

You don't want to run out of food in the middle of a shortage, so make sure you have at least a few weeks' worth of food on hand. You may also want to consider switching to a cheaper food brand. There are a lot of affordable options out there, and your pet will still be getting the nutrients she needs.

It's perfectly fine for your cat to have a couple of treats every day, but they should always be given in moderation and are not a substitute for a balanced and nutritionally complete diet.
